Port Douglas wary of improved Manunda

PORT Douglas will need to be wary of a rejuvenated Manunda Hawks outfit tomorrow at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex, according to captain Kye Chapple.

On paper it looks like a routine win for the second placed Crocs with the Hawks languishing near the bottom of the AFL Cairns ladder.

But form suggests they’ll be no pushover with Manunda running ladder leader South Cairns to within 11-points last week.

“They’ve shown they can play some good footy so we’ll need to be weary, “ Chapple said following his hit-out with the Gold Coast Suns reserves earlier this week.

“They pushed South Cairns all the way so they are obviously doing something right.”

The Hawks led the Cutters by seven-points heading into the final term before class eventually won out, but they have enough good players to cause the Crocs some problems.

Western Australian recruit Cameron Gauci has been a revelation for the Hawks and was best-on-ground against South Cairns, the former WAFL product having an immediate impact for his new club.

Chapple and midfielder Jesse Mawson are coming off a run in the NEAFL for the Suns while the rest of their Port Douglas team-mates had the bye last week. They enter the clash having won their past four matches.
