Update: Four now charged with attempted murder and torture

Detectives have charged another man following further investigations into an alleged assault in Cairns over the weekend.

It will be alleged that late afternoon on Saturday February 27, a 26-year-old Mooroobool man was assaulted at a business in Scott Street before being forced into a vehicle and driven to numerous locations where he was assaulted.

Police will further allege in the early hours of Sunday he was taken to the Black Mountain area where he was bound to a tree with ropes and assaulted further by two men.

The two men allegedly left him tied to a tree however he managed to untie himself and walked through the bush to a farm where he sought assistance at about 11am on Monday.

A 52-year-old Manoora man this afternoon has been charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty and torture.

Three other men were charged earlier this morning in relation to the same incident.

A 32-year-old White Rock man has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, torture, wounding, deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

A 25-year-old Smithfield man has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, torture, wounding, deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

A 19-year-old Earlville man has been charged with one count each of torture, wounding, deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

All four men were due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court this today.

Investigations are continuing.
