Reef Marina general manager Robert Cruz today confirmed that tourism entrepreneur and the owner of The Ville Resort, Chris Morris, is moving his 33.5m charter yacht Flying Fish to Port Douglas. He is expected to move here early April.

Flying Fish was built for party-boy, the late Sydney investor Rene Rivkin in 1991. It comes with eight guest berths all with marble ensuites.

According to the Townsville Bulletin, Morris said that since moving the luxury vessel to Townsville last year, he has not had a single charter booking out of the city. By moving to Port Douglas, Morris feels business will be brisk during the approaching tourist season.

He has described the yacht as “a bit ostentatious, but some people like that”.

The flamboyant millionaire bought Jupiters last year for $70 million, turned Orpheus Island resort into a boutique six-star resort; obtained Mt Mulligan cattle station, home to “Queensland’s Ayers Rock”, to build into an outback retreat; has the Daintree Eco-Resort in the heart of the rainforest, north of Cairns; as well as a fleet of 23 new helicopters in Nautilus Aviation.

“This is an excellent addition to the Marina and clearly illustrates that our plans are coming to fruition; and that we have the capability to take larger vessels,” said Cruz.
