What a year it has been for the Astute Financial Mud Crabs, after all the hard work throughout the season the Muddies first grade side were rewarded with The CFN B Grade premiership for season 2015/2016 - going back to back.

Taking on Barron River in what was always going to be a great game the Crabs took the honours by 21 runs, after the first 2 days that sore Sammy ‘Big show’ Evens smash a very impressive 91 and spin king Daniel Redfern take 5/34, the Muddies went into day 3 full of confidence.

With Barron needing 121 for victory and the crabs needing 8 wickets the lads set about doing what they do best.

Darren ‘The Chief’ Wall opened up the day finishing of his over from the week prior and bought instant success. He picked up his second and third wickets with some perfectly timed full toss’s to have Barron 4/68.

Rotating one end while Redfern took control of the other, captain Bobby decided to give the chief a spell and bring on Benny V. Benny bowled with great control and pace while Redfern decided it was time claiming two quick wickets to bring the muddies right back in it. Benny V still ramping it up picked up a couple himself before Adam ‘Bobby’ Lucas thought he better get involved.

Bobby came back on and bowled some absolute heat and claimed the important wicket of Barron’s Ruggles, bowling him for 40,?With Barron 9/147 and the muddies starting to get excited, Redfern decided enough was enough and after a marathon 31 overs he spun one past the Barron batsman smashing the off stump, from there on the crabs went into party mode ‘tears, beers and cheers’.

Bowling figures for the day were, A Lucas 13 overs 1/38, B Vikionkorpi 18 overs 2/32, Darren Wall 9 overs 3/20 and a completely knackered Daniel Redfern 31 overs 3/45.

Only good times ahead for the Muddies from here and all at the club would like to thank everyone for their support over the past season.

A special mention has to go to one of our many beloved sponsor’s Dave’s takeaway for the weekly lunch’s provided to the boys. Also The Astute Financial and The Court House hotel for their ongoing support, Keith Taylor for his hard work in preparing a pitch for us to play each week, and Benny V and the committee for all the work over this season.

Once again thank you all for supporting local sport and we will see you all in a few months when it all kicks off again. For the time being thanks for reading.
