Melbourne International Comedy Festival flies north

PORT Douglas residents won’t need to jump on a plane to experience this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival, with a travelling roadshow announced in Far North Queensland.
Douglas Shire residents can catch critically acclaimed international and domestic acts fresh off the stage in Melbourne at the MICF Roadshow in Cairns.
The hilarious Bob Franklin, Jess Perkins, Pajama Men (USA), Sean Choolburra and Xavier Michelides will all make the trip for a special run of shows at the Tanks Art Centre from April 21-23.
Tanks Arts Centre Publicity Officer Chelsey Johnston urged comedy fans in Port Douglas to cash in on having acts from the world famous festival at their finger tips.
"With three shows on it's a great opportunity for people in Port Douglas to come down and make a night of it, be it on a Friday or Saturday night," Johnston said.
"They are quality performers fresh from the stage in Melbourne whih is a festival everyone is so familiar with. The MICF is such a recognisable brand so these shows will sell fast."
The line-up follows the announcement of comedy icon Jimeoin's one-off show in Port Douglas on the eve of Carnivale 2016.
"We also had Judith Lucy here recently so there's some amazing comedians choosing to perform in our own backyard at the moment which is exciting," Johnston said.
"We have comedians from the Sydney Comedy Festival up here in October too so we're spoilt for choice."
MICF Roadshow headliner Franklin became famous for his appearances on Jimeoin's television show and has also appeared with Shaun Micallef, Mick Molloy and Lano and Woodley on their comedy programs.
The welsh-born comic will MC the evenings at Tanks from Thursday April 21 through to Saturday April 23.??For more information and to book tickets visit
