Mayor Leu triumphant in Douglas Shire election

UPDATED: MAYOR Julia Leu has recorded a resounding victory in the Douglas Shire election, returning to office for another four years.

With 13 of 14 first preference booths now counted, Leu has received a whopping 65.07 per cent of votes compared to her opponent Roy Weavers' 34.93 per cent.

She has recieved a total of 3,718 votes opposed to Weavers 1,996.

The interesting race is between the council candidates with results not confirmed until all postal votes are counted after March 29.

Candidate Roy Zammataro and Abigail Noli have been declared two of the four new Douglas Shire councillors, but David Carey, Peter McKeown and Michael Kerr are locked in a three-way fight for the other positions.
