Port Douglas Carnivale event organisers have announced the addition of an international circus cabaret to the lineup of events in the Wonderland Spiegeltent, which will be perched in Dixie Park as the hub of Carnivale from May 12 until May 22.
Limbo is reported as being a dirty and dangerous circus-cabaret, whisking audiences worldwide into a sinister netherworld of jaw dropping contortion, gut-churning aerial acrobatics and staggering illusions.
Picture a fiery fusion of brilliant musicians and sideshow, circus and dance performers combining to create an adults-only cabaret like no other.
Featuring a stunning international cast including Coney Island’s infamous sword swallower and exquisite French-Canadian aerialist, Evelyne Allard, and critically-acclaimed the world over, this is one show not to be missed.
During the lead-in and throughout Carnivale weekend, the Wonderland Spiegeltent will also house performances from comedy superstar Jimeoin, enigmatic trio The Kransky Sisters, Blues superstars Lloyd Spiegel and Big Daddy Wilson and a lively program of live music, sizzling burlesque and side- cracking comedy.
Organiser Melissa Head from Knockout Events said the aim was to create a non-stop hub of live entertainment that brings together some of the most exciting national, international and local performers currently touring.
“Limbo is such an exciting and well-suited addition to Carnivale – this show has travelled the world – apparently Madonna saw it twice – and now we have it coming to Port. We’re thrilled and hope the locals and visitors will enjoy this sensational show,” she said.
The Carnivale weekend, May 20 to 22, will also feature the Friday Paradise on a Plate-Longest Lunch, the Carnivale Wonders of the Tropics Street Parade on Friday night and a Family Beach Day Party at Four Mile Beach on Saturday May 21.
The inaugural Port On A Fork-Food, Music & Wine will feature food fit for the most discerning foodie on Saturday night plus music from Joe Camilleri & Black Sorrows.
For Art lovers, the debut Container Art Park exhibit will run for the entire weekend. Port Douglas will also be privileged to have Diane Cilento’s private art collection on display.
Best known for her stellar acting career in the 1950s and 60s, earning her Tony and Academy Award nominations, and her marriage to actor Sean Connery, Ms Cilento also founded Karnak Playhouse in Whyanbeel and was a pioneer in the performance arts in the region, and had established a strong following from locals and visitors.
Sunday you’ll find the Port Douglas Fisherman’s Village Seafood & Music Festival in full swing, complete with blues music and buckets of prawns, and then watch the sunset at Rex Smeal Park on a picnic blanket, with fish & chips and live music.
