UNDER the umbrella of the Port Douglas Basketball Club Inc, The Reece Rockets and The Saints battled it out last week to win the term competition.

Both teams played well on the boards which caused a low scoring game. By the smallest of margins, the Saints won each of the first three quarters; the second and largest was won by only two points. At the end of the third quarter the scores were The Saints 18 and The Reece Rockets 17.

The only three point shots to land were made by The Reece Rockets point guard Miss Jade Philip who scored twice from beyond the three point line and barely missed out on a third as her foot was on the line, for a total of eight points.

The Saint’s Chris Barber took out the Grand Final’s MVP due to his consistent excellent play at both ends of the court.

With only 44 seconds left in the game, The Reece Rockets were ahead by five points; 23 to 18. From somewhere deep within them, The Saints lifted and ran out winners 27 to 23.

The competition now takes a break in line with school holidays and resumes on Wednesday July 13 for the men and Thursday July 14 for the ladies.  The Heat is looking to expand the number of both its men’s and women’s teams, so now is the perfect time to sign up.
