RUGBY UNION: Reef Raiders look for redemption against Penryn
Published Thursday 30 June 2016
THE Port Douglas Reef Raiders want to avenge what could have been a deserved victory when they last played Penryn.
A missed penalty cost them the game and coach Steve Cowe is eager that on Saturday his team emerges on the right side of the scoreboard when the sides meet at 4:00pm at the Port Douglas Sports Complex.
“I am expecting an even contest upfront, but we may stretched on the outside as Penryn have two speedy wings. We hope to close them out,” said Cowe.
Cowe also revealed that former Wallaby Gary Pearse, who is in town for the Danny Tutavake golf fundraiser, will attend the Raiders’ training session on Thursday tonight and Cowe said this will be a huge lift for the players.
“He will no doubt provide a great deal of inspiration and will also be a huge boost for the club.”
Cowe said a number of players who have had work commitments, are returning and will be in Saturday’s team. They are prop Clint Cachill, eighthman Jack Murday and centre Theo Ryan.
Livewire scrumhalf Roy McHugh is a doubtful starter because of injury and a decision will be made on Saturday before the match. If he is unavailable, he’ll be replaced by George Chadwick.
Meanwhile, anyone who would like to help out at any game over the next few weeks, is most welcome to offer their services; on the gate, at the BBQ or in the bar.
