RRR Mountain Bike Race continues to break records and deliver best race in Australia
Published Tuesday 7 June 2016
DOMINIC Hoyal and Anita Narula took out the 35km RRR Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday, while Olivier Phillips and Sarah Kaehler saluted in the 70km event.
With around 400 local, national and international entrants racing through Port Douglas’ diverse terrain this year the event is sure to have increased international exposure for the 35 km Classic RRR and a 70km Endurance RRR.
Even before Cairns hosted the 1996 MTB World Championships, The iconic Triple RRR (Rural, Rainforest & Reef) cross country event was in its 5th year. The Triple R mountain bike race is the longest running 'point to point' race in Australia. First run in 1991 the race has run consecutively for 25 years.
The race has been run as club events, Queensland Cross Country Championships and a round of the Australian National Series.
