A Port Douglas man has been charged with one count of possession of child exploitation material.

The 32-year-old had his Sandpiper Street residence raided yesterday by Detectives from the Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit, in which two computers were seized.

Police will allege detectives recovered in excess of 8,400 pictures and videos with further examinations to be conducted.

He is appearing in the Mossman Magistrates Court today.
