LIFESTYLE: The wedding cake conundrum

WEDDING cakes can be such an important part of your big day. The look, the taste, how you will serve it. Below are a few handy tips for when you are making these decisions.

TIP 1 - How are you planning on serving your cake on the night?  Will it be plated for dessert, small bite sized pieces for cocktail service or dessert buffet; or will you have it cut and put into cake boxes for taking home?  Make sure you supply this information and how many guests to your cake maker so they can ensure the correct size cake.

TIP 2 - Are you having a large wedding but don’t want a massive six tier wedding cake to be able to feed all of your guests… easy! Choose the wedding cake you like based on how it looks and have a “kitchen cake” made. This will be the same cake but arrives as a slab cake for the kitchen to cut and plate once the actual wedding cake has been finished.  All of your guests still have the same yummy dessert (and it can be a saving on your budget too!)

TIP 3 - Make sure you check with your cake maker how you should store your cake once it has been delivered/collected. Some cakes will require a cool room/fridge and others fare better in an air-conditioned room.  This is particularly important in our tropical environment as some styles of icing can “sweat”.

TIP 4 -
Speaking of delivery of your cake, I recommend paying that little bit extra to have your cake delivered.  Your cake maker is very experienced in travelling with your precious cargo on board.

Tip 5 - No cake – some couples are even choosing to not have a cake at all and serve dessert rather than cake.  Another option becoming popular is having a small token one tier cake just so they can still have the tradition of the cake cutting and photos but a different style dessert.

Whatever you choose is fine, your day - your choice!
