LIFESTYLE: Kick start your day with an Acai Bowl

Published Friday 10 June 2016

WORDS by Irene Cats

I’ve heard a lot about the Acai Berry lately so when I heard Café Fresq is serving an Acai Bowl for breakfast I thought I would go and check it out for you guys, bringing along the Acai Bowl connoisseur Rebaccah from QT Port Douglas.

The Acai Berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) originates from the Brazilian Amazon and is a deep purple berry the size of a small grape. The pulp of this fruit is believed to improve your digestion, heart health and energy levels, slow down the ageing process and help with weight loss. O my Acai, that’s a lot for a small berry! But does it taste good? That’s the question.

Before the tasting Rebeccah informs me that the famous Acai Bowl can be made in a few different ways and we should make sure to find out what’s Fresq’s secret recipe is. We are very excited to find out Café Fresq mixes the frozen berry pulp with coconut water, another well know superfood.

Still not knowing what to expect I am so excited to see what is placed in front of me; a beautiful bowl full of purple goodness topped with banana, nuts, oats, coconut and sesame seeds. And the good news is, it tastes amazing! This must be the most refreshing breakfast option in town and you can’t help but instantly feel healthier.

Aoife, Owner of Café Fresq says: ‘The combination of the Acai Berry and coconut water makes this a great nutritious and hydrating breakfast for the warm Port Douglas climate and the perfect hangover cure!’

Café Fresq is open for breakfast and lunch daily except Tuesdays from 7am – 3pm. Check out Café Fresq on Facebook and Instagram for updates and specials.
