MOSSMAN half-brothers Couper Smith and Wade Duncan will represent Australia next month in two major golf tournaments in the USA.

Wade, 15, and Couper, 10, both received wildcard entries into the Australian Junior Golf team and will now compete at the IJGA Junior World Stars of Golf Tournament in Las Vegas, followed by the inaugural West Coast Junior Championships in California.

Hour-upon-hour on the practice greens and fairways of the Mossman Golf Club have paid off for the modest youngsters, who play off an impressive 6 and 27 respectively.

“We do a lot of practice, basically every night if we can,” Wade said.

“We are really excited, we have never been overseas before and to play in these tournaments is pretty special.

“We’ll just do our best.”

The pair, who follow the exploits of Australian superstars Adam Scott and Jason Day ‘religiously’, will fly into Los Angeles and make their way to Las Vegas for the World Stars tournament from July 17-21.

Wade will warm up for the trip by playing in the PGA Pro-Am at the Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club Course in Cairns from July 5-7.

“It’s the perfect preparation for him really,” Wade’s step-father Matt Smith said.

“One of the major sponsors of the event offered him the chance to play and of course we jumped at it.

“It will be a great experience for both the boys in the USA to compete at that level against an international field.”

A fundraiser is being held for the boys tomorrow night at the Mossman Golf Club to assist with the financial cost of getting them to the USA, accompanied by parents Matt and Lisa Smith.

A number of items will be auctioned off on the night, including sporting memorabilia, accommodation packages, reef trips, sunset cruises, golfing equipment and more.

A Roast dinner will be available from 6.30pm and live music will play until late, with a free return shuttle from Port Douglas also available.
