EMERGENCY services were called to a fire at the Tropical Reef Apartments on Davidson Street this morning.
A holidaying family left a pot on a stove unattended in one of the apartments which caught fire, setting off the smoke alarm.
A neighbour called the fire bridge with two fire trucks, police and ambulance services all attending the scene.
Clayton Vladich from the Port Douglas Fire Brigade and his team put the fire out without any damage, but without the smoke alarm things could have been very different.
“The smoke alarm saved the day really,” Vladich said.
“A holidaying family have left a pot on a stove, there was no-one inside at the time so it was fortunate in the end no damage was done.”
