AFL CAIRNS: Unstoppable Chapple leads Crocs to thumping win

A KYE Chapple inspired Port Douglas smashed premiership fancy South Cairns by 70-points on Saturday.

The gun spearhead booted nine-goals in another match-winning performance and set the tone early for his team with three first quarter majors.

The Crocs skipper was unstoppable in the first half and had seven goals to his name at the main change to set up the convincing 17.13 (115) to 5.15 (45).

Star midfielder Jesse Mawson had the ball on a string all afternoon while Peter Bury just keeps producing for his new club and was again among the best, as was Jonathan Hobbs and Wes Glass.

Port Douglas coach Brad Cooper said Chapple, 24, hasn’t let him down this year after handing him the captaincy.

“He’s got an old head on young shoulders,” Cooper said.

“He’s having a great year and the whole leadership group is really taking ownership on the way we want to go about it.”

The Crocs now sit on top of the AFL Cairns ladder with a massive percentage of 183.43, evidence they are blowing sides out of the water with their quick ball movement and hunger at the contest.

Chapple leads the competition goal-kicking award with 39 after nine rounds.
