AFL CAIRNS: Ferocious Crocs feast on Bulldogs

Published Monday 27 June 2016

THERE are three certainties in life at the moment: death, taxes and Port Douglas captain Kye Chapple booting a bag of goals.

The Chapple show rolled on yesterday with the spearhead booting 11 goals in the Crocs 124-point mauling of Centrals Trinity Beach. He has 71 goals after 12 rounds following another best-on-ground performance for Port Douglas, who have won nine games straight.

Crocs coach Brad Cooper praised another dominant display from his skipper, but was quick to point out he’s receiving some silver service further up the ground.

“He is playing some unbelievable footy there is no doubt, but he is getting plenty of feed from the midfielders,” Cooper said.

“Our midfield and the depth at our club is one of our strength’s at the moment, we’re probably picking from 26-28 each week if they’re all fit.

“The boys all played their role and when that happens you get results like that, so it was pleasing.”

A ferocious Port Douglas sucked the life out of Centrals Trinity Beach with another blistering opening quarter, banging on 6.7 to 0.1 to lead by a commanding 42-points at the first change.

Dylan Wearmouth and Wes Glass continued their scintillating form while youngster Mitch Bohm (four goals) was proving more than a handful up forward with three-majors at the main break. Chapple booted five-goals ion the second term alone to have seven at half time, with the Crocs in complete control with a 72-point advantage.

Jack Riley and Gavin Jacks also impressed in the 26.14 (170) to 7.4 (46) win.

“You always want to start the match well and it’s something you talk about before the game, but to go out and do it is a different thing,” Cooper said.

“The biggest thing with us is the group now know how to play with each other and we will just keep improving every week.

“There is plenty of upside for us, everyone is now on the same page so it’s just about fine tuning the little things.”
