WATCH: Four-metre croc caught on film at mouth of Dicksons Inlet

IN case anyone needed reminding about being croc wise in Port Douglas, consider this video taken by Matt Koch from Port Douglas Sport Fishing.

While preparing his boat for a busy day on the water yesterday morning, Koch captured footage of a massive four-metre crocodile swimming through Dicksons Inlet enjoying a turtle for breakfast.

It comes just days after tourists were escorted out of the same inlet in an inflatable kayak which generated plenty of discussion among Newsport readers.

“It’s definitely not something you see everyday, a large crocodile of that size with a live turtle in its mouth,” Koch said.

“I was just getting the boat ready for our guests for the day and noticed it, and was lucky enough to get some vision.

“We see this croc quite regularly, most of the people call it ‘Clive’, so they are definitely around.”

It serves as another reminder to stay vigilant in far north waters following the tragic death of Cindy Waldron in the Daintree last month, who was taken by a similar sized crocodile.

Northern Wildlife Operations Manager Michael Joyce, from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP), said in a statement that crocodile sightings should always be reported, especially around urban areas.

“If you see a crocodile, please report it as soon as possible to the Department,” Joyce said.

“EHP investigates all crocodile sighting reports it receives.”

Anyone with a croc sighting should contact the EHP on 1300 130 372. For more information about being CrocWise visit www.ehp.qld.gov.au/wildlife/livingwith/crocodiles
