Port Douglas produce six age champions at North Queensland Surf Life Saving Carnival

Published Thursday 28 July 2016

NEARLY 300 competitors from five North Queensland clubs battled it out in Etty Bay over the weekend, with some great results for the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club.

The local club had 35 participants competing in the ocean and beach races at the North Queensland Surf Life Saving Carnival, and produced six age champions across the weekend.

Brian Markham (60 male), John Goodman (55-59 male), Kelly McNamara (50-54 female), Irene Cats (30-34 female), Mitchell Knight (Under 17 male) and Harrison Mussett (under 10 male) all took out their age groups. Port Douglas finished third overall with 568 points and second in the handicap results in a huge coup for the club.

Attention now turns to the next event on the calendar, the Rhett Collie and Rebecca Creedy Training Weekend from August 5 -7 in Port Douglas.

Rebecca is the Australian iron woman champion and Queensland board champion and will be sharing her tips and tricks with the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club members in a great initiative for the club.

The next North Queensland Surf Life Saving Carnival will be in Palm Cove starting Saturday 21 August.
