Think you’re under the limit? Think again!

The Cairns overnight media statement reports a wake-up call for early morning drink drivers.

As the holiday season continues, Police ramp up their ‘RBT - Anywhere, Anytime’ campaign and are reminding drivers to think twice before they get behind the wheel.

In Mount Sheridan a 41-year-old woman from White Rock and a Mount Sheridan man aged 28 witnessed first-hand the ‘RBT – Anywhere, Anytime’ message after they were intercepted on Hardy Road yesterday morning.

Edmonton police were conducting roadside breath testing as part of a road safety operation and intercepted the woman at around 8am whilst she was transporting two children to day care.  She allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of .099 per cent and was charged with low range drink driving.

The Mount Sheridan man was intercepted about 15 minutes later and allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of .07 per cent.  He was also charged with low range drink driving.

In both cases, the drivers indicated surprise at their respective readings and told police that they had consumed liquor the previous evening and thought they were fit to drive.

Port Douglas Police Sergeant Damien Meadows is appealing to all drivers to take it easy on the roads.

“There is a heightened level of police presence as part of the road safety campaign which is into phase three and will continue to January 29, 2016,” he cautioned.

If you think you are under the limit, chances are you may not be.
