Happy new year all. What a day! I was down at the mud pit on Sunday for the first of two double headers for the year.
The B Grade boys got down early to support the C Grade lads and watch a very impressive victory by them. Captain Bobby was pumped and ready to go against the Rovers.
The Skipper won the toss and elected to bat also thinking it would be a good idea for himself to open the batting with young Ben Shrimpton due to a couple of absent players still away on holidays.
This didn’t work out how Captain Mint Sauce would have liked skying a ball and getting caught for 7. King was the next to go having his stumps removed by a peach of a delivery bringing young Tom Goodall to the crease with Benny.Young guns Benny and Tommy put on a magnificent 45 run partnership before Tom feel for 14. Shrimpy was the next to go for a well-made 30.
Sam Evans couldn’t continue were he left of from the previous game being trapped absolutely plum for an impressive 19. Dan Harris made a lovely 22. Postans a nice 15. Ged Walsh was run out for 17, and the tail didn’t do much at all with Kaiden out for a duck. Deep 6 and Redfern 0 not out. Muddies all out for 145 of their 35 overs.
Captain Bobby opened the bowling with a fired up Deep and it didn’t take the skipper long to produce the goods removing the stumps of the rovers opener. Deep also claimed an early one and was quite happy about it as well.
Deep and the Skipper bowled a couple more before having a spell which bought on Kaiden an Redfern. Kaiden bowled his usual tight lines and picked up one for his troubles. Redfern struggled to find his lines at the start eventually turning to Harris on how to resolve the issue. The talk worked wonders picking up his first the very next over. Nathan King was brought into the attack taking 2 which could have been more if it wasn’t for a couple of spuds.
Bowling figures were, A Lucas 1/27 of 7, D Singh 1 /23 of 6, K Sorenson 1/16 of 5, B Shrimpton 0/4 of 2, T Goodall 0/3 of 1, N King 2/15 of 7 and D Redfern 3/14 of 7.
In the end the Rovers were rolled for 109 a good first up win for the Astute Financial Mud Crabs who this travel up the hill to Atherton and continue on their winning way.
Go Crabs.
