Douglas Shire Council has released a conceptual design of the proposed Flagstaff Hill walking trail destined to become a “must-do” experience for locals and visitors alike.

The conceptual design produced by renowned track builders World Trail links Four Mile Beach and Dickson’s Inlet and features spectacular sea and mountain views.

Hugging natural terrain overlooking the Coral Sea, the proposed 1.5km trail follows the contours of Flagstaff Hill and boasts lookouts to Double Island, Four Mile Beach, Low Isles, Snapper Island and the Daintree Rainforest.

Mayor Julia Leu said the proposed walking trail was sure to become a huge attraction for tourists and would be heavily utilised by locals as well.

“Our natural attractions are our greatest asset in the Douglas Shire and having a spectacular and very accessible walking trail that highlights so many of our local natural wonders will provide many benefits,” Mayor Leu said.

“It means people will be able to walk from the southern end of Four Mile Beach all the way to the marina with uninterrupted water views and surrounded by nature.

“This is a great outcome not just for visitors, but for the many locals who enjoy a healthy lifestyle and can regularly experience it while exercising.”

More details on the proposed Flagstaff Hill walking trail will be released in the coming months for community engagement on the project.
