The Douglas Shire Community Services Association is celebrating its 25 year anniversary this year and a group of Directors, staff, volunteers and friends gathered to cut the ceremonial anniversary cake to mark the occasion.

“It is truly an auspicious milestone for a not-for-profit organisation in a remote rural township such as Mossman to have developed and expanded the way this Association has over a quarter of a century,” Ms Kerrie Jamieson, Chairman of DSCSA said at the morning tea.

“We have increased our services from the very rudimentary to now cover the Mossman Community Centre, Disability Services, Men’s Shed, Partners in Recovery, Work for the Dole programs, Emergency Relief, arts and craft activities, Christmas and community luncheons and many more,” Ms Jamieson said.

“There are more than 50 volunteers who are vital in our quest to offer a range of activities and, along with the staff, provide essential services to hundreds of people in the Douglas Shire.”

The Chairman thanked staff, volunteers and current and past directors for their efforts in maintaining the high quality of service in a warm and encouraging atmosphere.

“Many times we meet people who, if not for the help, guidance and support of DSCSA, would not have been able to enjoy a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle,” Ms Jamieson said, “so the rewards of our efforts are enormous.”

The Chairman also thanked the local businesses and other agencies for their backing and assistance in pursuing our goal of ‘Supporting our Community’.
