Port to lose popular golf GM Ben Wood

Port Douglas is clearly the poorer after popular Palmer Sea Reef general manager Ben Wood announced that he would be returning to his family on the Gold Coast. Sunday will be his last day.
Wood will be replaced by Michael Levick who has extensive golf industry experience. His most recent position was with the Professional Golfers’ of Australia where he served in the international golfers’ institute.
“My family is based on the Gold Coast, and although I am sad to be leaving a great town and golf course, this is a decision I had to make and I am looking forward to re-connecting with them,” Wood said.
Since assuming the role in May 2014, he has enjoyed numerous successes, including the almost doubling of the golf membership; the introduction of a social membership; the staging of events on Melbourne Cup Day, Easter, Father’s and Mother’s Day and this year he is hosting the first Australia Day celebration.
Levick said Wood had laid an outstanding foundation and he was looking forward to building on it.
“Ben has done an exceptional job and I’m honoured to succeed him. Also, you could not wish for better than working in Port Douglas,” he said.Wood is in the throes of finalising the finer details of his new job. He could not elaborate at this time.
