Non-suspicious boat fire, Trinity Park

Police and emergency services were called to a boat fire yesterday afternoon at a marina in Trinity Park.

At around 3:25pm police were advised that a 14.6 meter Cougar Cat full Cabin Catamaran moored at a private jetty had caught fire.

A police patrol from Smithfield were already in attendance after noticing smoke billowing from the area.

The fire was extinguished by emergency service crews after two hours and the vessel sunk shortly afterwards.

The vessel was damaged beyond repair and remains at the incident location.

A containment boom has been set up around the vessel in the event that diesel or oil entered the water.

Police investigations are continuing however it is not believed to be suspicious.
