Today Newsport’s founder and Columnist, Roy Weavers, announced he intends to run for Mayor in the upcoming Douglas Shire Council 19 March election.

Managing Director Sam Cullen has confirmed Mr Weavers has resigned from all duties relevant to the Newsport newsroom, to avoid any conflict of interest.

Sam Cullen wishes Mr Weavers all the best in his endeavours.

Newsport’s Cassandra Pulver will be interviewing Roy Weavers to provide an in depth account of his decision to run as Mayor in the March 19 local election.

Newsport statement below:

----------

Good afternoon all,

This morning I was informed by founder and part time Columnist Roy Weavers that he was standing as a Candidate for Mayor of the Douglas Shire at the upcoming March 19 Elections.

As has to be the case with this type of event, Roy was relieved of any of his current duties within Newsport Publishing to ensure there would be no conflicts during his election campaign.

All access to the newsroom, emails, meetings, internal dialogue will cease and Roy will be given the same guidelines to follow as all candidates to the election.

It should be noted that Roy Weavers stood for Councillor in the 2013 Local Elections. The measures undertaken by Newsport to ensure no conflict on this occasion satisfied the public and other Candidates during this time.

We wish Roy all the best with his political endeavours as well as all of the other candidates.

We look forward to keeping our readership informed up to date on a daily basis.

Regards

Sam Cullen
