It was reported on social media there has been some attempted car thefts in Craiglie and other areas of Port Douglas.

It was reported that an attempt to break into a hire car was interrupted by a resident who lives close to where the car was parked.  The culprit was chased by the resident but evaded capture. It was also reported that this culprit attempted to break into a neighbouring vehicle as well.

Newsport contacted Sergeant Damien Meadows of Port Douglas Police for a report on this or any other incidences of attempted motor vehicle theft in the region. Sgt Meadows was not available for comment at the time of publication.

Newsport will provide an updated report from police once the information becomes available.

The current stolen vehicle alert for the past 30 days for the Far North District as at 8th February 2016 stated that the following vehicle was stolen from the Craiglie area;

• Blue 2014 Holden Captiva Wagon Queensland rego 606VSX stolen 3rd February 2016

Sergeant Cary Coolican the OIC of Cairns Crime Prevention & Media Unit Co-ordinator, advises not to attempt to intercept any stolen vehicles but to contact police.
