Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu and councillors David Carey, Abigail Noli and Michael Kerr were just some of the special guests on hand to pay their resects with students and teachers alike.
Mossman RSL sub-branch Vice President Bruce Craven, a Vietnam War veteran, was also in attendance as was Sergeant Damien Meadows and Senior Constable Ian Olsen from the Queensland Police service.
“It’s always a beautiful atmosphere here at Port Douglas State School for your ANZAC Day ceremonies,” Mayor Leu said on Friday.
“Me and my fellow councillors were delighted to be invited and to attend'.
The ceremony was held around the school flag pole area and included poem readings by students and bag pipes played by Sean Hawkes. Craven also presented the book My Grandad marches on ANZAC Day to the PDSS library.
