Port Douglas rockers launch cracking new album

PORT Douglas rockers Benny & The Clones will launch their highly anticipated third album The Clones this weekend.

The laid back three-piece have been churning out original tunes in the Queensland tropics for best part of ten years and are stoked to be releasing their latest effort.

They started recording back in 2014 in their home studio in Port Douglas - a place band members Ben Radford (songwriter, guitar, lead vocals), Dale Priem (guitar) and Ben Kuring (drums) have spent countless hours before.

Although they’ve produced records in the past, Radford said this one felt different. They were onto something. So they shipped it over to Nashville in the USA to be mixed and mastered.

By the end of 2015 it was complete, and they’ll unleash it with two epic album launches in Cairns and Port Douglas over the next two weekends.

“We’re all pretty chuffed with it,” Radford said.

“It’s been a couple of years in the making, we’ve certainly put a lot into it and I think that comes out on the record.

“We’re excited to be launching it in our home town of Port Douglas (April 23) and we’ll warm up with a launch in Cairns.”

The band plan to take The Clones down the east coast for shows in Melbourne - a former stomping ground of Radford - where their folk laced indie-rock sound will go down a treat.

They’ve already had some love from Triple J and supported rising aussie powerhouse Kingswood, and this latest 12-track album will only enhance their profile.

If you like Dan Kelly, Radiohead or The Drones, then you’re going to love The Clones.

The Port Douglas album launch at the Yacht Club next Saturday 23rd April, will feature Tim Wright from King Pig, Bobby McGuire, Swamp Donkey & Moody and the promising Machine Machine in a monster bill from 4pm. Entry is $8 at the venue or check out the Benny & The Clones Album Launch Festival site.

They’ll gear up for that tomorrow night at the 12 Bar Blue in Cairns. Doors open from 7pm with entry $5. Check out the The Clones Cairns Album Launch site.
