The Douglas United Dragons had an epic night at the KStar Charity Fundraiser at the Central Hotel last Wednesday night.
Over $3000 was raised on the night with locals and tourists alike jumping on board to support the Club with the money being raised via an entry fee, raffle tickets and an array of auctions.
Local businesses got behind the event, willingly donating prizes for the cause. Such was the success of the auctions on the evening that the odd prize went for more than face value with almost all recouping the worth of the prizes.
One traveller from Bowral even jumped straight in, paying even money for one of the prizes straight off the bat in order to ward off the competition.
The quiz itself was a fun affair with half a dozen teams fighting it out for intellectual bragging rights over five rounds that tested everyone's knowledge across a broad range of topics. It was tight throughout with a lot of high scoring rounds but it was the Ferrero family team that came out on top, kicking clear in the music round.
Douglas United Football Club would like to again thank everyone for making the event such a great success. That starts from KStar's organisation and running of the quiz and his assistance in securing the night for the Dragons, the Central for hosting the event and their generous contribution.
All the wonderful local businesses from as far north as the Daintree all the way down to Palm Cove also need to be congratulated, and finally to everyone that came along on the night and were so generous with their time and their hard earned cash.
We look forward to doing it all again next year.
