POPULAR Port Douglas award winning artist Terry Johnson has been putting in the long hours at the easel to prepare for his solo exhibition at this year’s Carnivale.
Johnson’s work for the exhibition, to be displayed at the inaugural Container Art Park in Dixie Park, will be divided into two categories. The first is nature based and includes paintings of the shallows on Four Mile Beach, reflections in morning tide pools, tropical fish, plants and seascapes.
The second section is bright, bold and colourful work celebrating the energy of holidaying and living in Port Douglas.
These works include iconic hallmarks such St Mary’s church, palm trees, brightly illustrated fish, beach activities and just lots of fun in the sun.
“I was excited to be selected as the artist to design the poster for Carnivale and the additional offer of holding a solo exhibition in a purpose built shipping container was just too good to pass up,” Johnson said.
Works to be exhibited include paintings on canvas, limited edition prints, aluminium standoff panels and a selection of Johnson’s popular cards.
The Container Art Park will be located next to the Wonderland Speigeltent - which is making its Carnivale debut - in Dixie Park by the Sugar Wharf and is expected to attract a big crowd during the festival from Friday 20 May to Sunday 22 May.
