Community invited to name new recycle shop

Published Thursday 21 April 2016

The Douglas Shire community has the chance to name the new recycle shop to be officially opened at Killaloe Transfer Station next month.

Mayor Julia Leu said the recycle shop was one of the initiatives to emerge from Council’s Waste Reduction & Recycling Plan 2016-2019 devised to encourage locals to play their part in preserving our environment.

“I’m delighted we’re now very close to officially opening our own recycle shop and can’t wait to see what treasures are salvaged from other people’s trash,” Mayor Leu said.

“Everything salvaged, repaired or restored for the recycle shop will be available to the community for free, at least to start off with as council assesses the volume of suitable material it receives and the best way to make the most of it.

“In time we hope it becomes feasible for a local non-profit organisation to manage operations at the recycle shop and be able to generate an income from it.

“In the meantime though, we need a catchy name for the recycle shop and thought with such a creative community, our locals would be the best people to come up with something clever and catchy.”

The person who comes up with the best name will receive a $50 gift voucher from Whileaway Bookstore.
