Our region’s food experiences on par with the best in Queensland

Queensland Taste editors Sharnee Rawson and Anooska Tucker-Evans have compiled the Taste Top 100 Food Experiences with three of our locals and three of our neighbours acknowledged amongst the best of them.

Divided into nine categories covering the best restaurants, breakfasts, cellars, food trucks, bars, food destinations, icons, cheap eats and markets the venues all over Queensland were visited anonymously by editors and contributions during the last six months said the editors.

“Our brief was simply to find the state’s best food experience,” commented the editors.

Amongst the Top 100 Food Experiences acknowledged, Harrisons in Port Douglas was one of 20 Best Restaurants listed. A little ways down the hill in Palm Cove, NuNu was another one of the 20 listed restaurants offering the freshest ingredients and a wide range of inspiration.

Of the ten Best Cellar Door experiences Atherton Tablelands listed two; Mt Uncle Distillery and Skybury Coffee Plantation as the best producers who welcome visitors directly to the source.

Closer to home in Cooya Beach, one of the ten best Food Destinations was Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tours.  Though listed as offering an experience outside of your usual food haunts and located off the beaten track, they were well worth effort for the experience.

Mossman Markets was one in five Best Farmers Markets listed as offering the best fresh fare, artisan goods and tasty treats.

With a strong focus by chefs on regional fare and craft breweries offering interesting pours, there is no shortage of amazing food experiences not only in Queensland, but also much closer to home in the Douglas Shire and the Tropical North Queenlsand region.

Reina Patrick from Harrisons Restaurant was thrilled when they saw the list on Sunday.

“It is a huge achievement for all the TNQ businesses listed, a real nod for the food industry of this region and so exciting to see such a depth and diversity of products and services being acknowledged to break through the old perception of the region being only about coconuts and pineapples,” said Ms Patrick.
