Date Claimer: Polling day Saturday 19th March 2016, are you prepared?

As Douglas Shire Council fast approaches the upcoming election, this is the time for constituents to have their say by voting in who they want to represent them and who they think are the best people to make decisions on behalf of the entire Douglas Shire.

Once Newsport has confirmation of all candidates we will be reporting on what they think the priorities of the region are and how they intend on responding to the needs and wants of the region, as well as their short term and long term visions as part of their campaign strategy.

The Queensland Government guidelines under ‘so you want to be a councillor or mayor?’ states that the role is demanding.  It requires knowledge of local government legislation, policies and systems, an interest in people and a willingness to invest time and energy in serving the needs and interest of the local community.

Newsport calls upon anyone who is eligible to nominate or has been invited to nominate for councillor or mayor in the upcoming election, to offer their perspective on what they plan on standing for in their campaign strategy.

The Queensland Government Dept of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning states “that dealing with the media and promoting your candidature are import aspects of your campaign. This may include issuing media releases; attending public functions where the media is present; engaging in radio, television and print interviews as well as using advertising to promote yourself.”

Newsport welcomes readers comments to begin the conversation on the upcoming 19th March 2016 local council election.
