Breaking News: Live electrical wires across Davidson Street

Live electrical wires across Davidson Street

Published Tuesday 1 September 2015

Traffic is banked up north and south of Port Douglas Road as drivers await the removal of live fallen power lines across the corner of  Davidson Street and Port Streets.

A coach turning right from Port Street onto Davidson Road has hit a power pole knocking it to the ground. Live electrical lines were strewn across the road.

One witness claimed that “when the bus hit the power pole it kept driving and the vehicles behind the bus continued to drive under the live wires,” he said.

Police, ambulance, fire brigade and Emergency services are at the scene.

Sergeant Damien Meadows of Port Douglas Police reported that “a single vehicle bus has failed to negotiate the corner knocking down the power pole as it rounded the corner.  We are urging drivers to avoid this area if they don’t have to be on the road.  Ergon have isolated the area and we are expecting a further two hours delay,” said Sgt Meadows.

Expect delays in and out of Port Douglas and please be patient while emergency services rectify the situation.
