Smashing her personal best time of 2:27:45 has ranked Trengove the 6th fastest Australian female runner ever. This record achievement has booked her a place in the Australian team for Rio Olympics 2016.

Having already committed to “Running for the Reef” in Port Douglas on the 1st November, Trengove will line up for the 10km event before taking some much needed rest and relaxation.

"Winning the Melbourne Marathon and achieving a Rio Olympics Qualifying standard as well as a personal best was a dream result. It was a true team effort on Sunday and I'm very grateful for the support of my coach, training partners, family, friends and the group of professionals who have helped me all year to get the most out of my body.

“I seem to have pulled up really well and can't wait to visit Port Douglas to take on the GBRMF 10km on the 1st November. Craig Mottram provided incredible support during Sunday's Marathon but I daresay he will be running away from me in this one!" said Trengove.

Marathon Festival Ambassador and Olympic legend Steve Moneghetti knew this performance from Trengove was coming.

"I have been watching the progress Jess has made in the marathon over the past few years and this latest effort is just perfect timing. Jess now knows she has her spot in the team booked and she can prepare for the run of her life in Rio. And what’s more we can all join together and toast Jess with champagne in Port Douglas on the 1st,” said Moneghetti.

Trengove joins Moneghetti, four time Olympian Craig Mottram and Australian Champion Pat Carroll as Ambassadors competing in various events at the Marathon Festival.

The Tropical Journeys Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival has attracted runners from 13 countries and every Australian state and territory is also represented. Regional and especially local runners are encouraged to enter as soon as possible to book a run against marathon legends, Moneghetti and Pat Carroll, Australian champion Craig Mottram and now Rio Olympian Jess Trengove.

Funds from this year’s event go to two new JCU crown of thorn starfish and micro plastics projects.
