Local guy rides for charity

Guy Ely is set to compete in the upcoming Noosa Triathlon 2015 and is fundraising with the RSPCA team riding for six hours last weekend to help raise funds.

Having raised $1,665.35 on the day, Mr Ely said he entered into triathlons a few years ago and he is hooked.

“A friend suggested I do the sprint distance at the Coral Coast Triathlon.  So with a bit of training I had a go and I loved the challenge and the atmosphere of the day.

The Noosa Triathlon 2015 is an Olympic event of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10 km run.

“I train individually and with some friends who call ourselves ‘The Muppets’.   There’s obviously lots of swimming , riding and running.

“We live in a fantastic area for a variety of training in the outdoors all year round.  Having the Range on our door step is great for hill training for riding and running.  With spots like the bump track, Julatten Range and Four Mile Beach for ocean swimming.

“Since moving here I have seen an increase in the community’s involvement in health and fitness.  Whether it’s cycling, mountain biking, running, outrigging, stand up paddle boarding or going for a walk with the mutt on the beach,” said Mr Ely.

The star of the day was Bill (Bill Murray pictured) who rode with his owner for the six hours.

“He was the star of the day.  He definitely deserved his dried liver treats that night,” said Mr Ely.
