Diggers cottages need support

Published Friday 9 October 2015

The Mossman R&SLA is running a cent sale at the sub branch hall on Saturday 17 October to raise much need funds to maintain their diggers cottages and help support our veterans.

The R&SLA support veterans and anyone who has been in active service, direct service and their legatees.  The two diggers cottages located in Mossman are available to provide accommodation for veterans, legatees and dependant veteran spouses.

Some great prizes have been donated from Mossman Auto Mart.  A build-you-own combustion engine and a 14 litre 12 volt cooler & warmer.  Mossman hardware donated a three by three gazebo and Val Geary has donated cosmetics. The majority of the prizes have been donated by generous community members.

The fundraising will help towards memorabilia upgrades and maintenance of the hall.  They have recently had donated to them a propeller from a Jindivik which is a UAV unmanned target trainer aircraft to add to their memorabilia collection.

As well as supporting other local charitable events and students from Mossman State High School with bursaries and sponsorships, they also offer support in finding the right welfare support services for veterans in need.

The event is open to the public with a limit of 50 guests starting at 1pm and promises to be a fun filled afternoon with lucky door prizes, lucky plate prizes, raffles and good old fashioned afternoon tea with scones, cup cakes, sandwiches and tea and coffee.
