It was time for celebration at the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club last Saturday. The Nippers certainly deserved some fun and games after another great season and lots of hard work and effort.
Nippers aged between 5 - 13 gathered on the beach with their parents, starting off with a beach relay slightly different from usual, a big tire had to be pushed around the course, which the nippers made look extremely easy.
To cool off it was time for a wade relay and a board relay where the aim of the game was to get as many kids on the board as possible, needless to say this was a fun chaos. The highlight of the beach games was the tug of war between the kids and the parents, with the kids smashing the parents in about 5 seconds.
After all this fun it was time for the official part of the morning with medals and trophies handed out to all well-deserved nippers. A boy and girl Age Champion was appointed per age group as well as a trophy handed to the most improved nipper per age group.
Overall there was a Training & Commitment Trophy for Hollie Le Griffin for the under 8’s – 10’s and August Gaske for the under 11’s – 14’s and Sophie Knight was crowned Nipper of the Year.
A group of 16 competitors is heading down for the North Aussies Surf Life Saving Carnival in Mackay this weekend, let’s wish them all the best and good luck!
