Mossman Gorge’s Deadly Dan urges men to put health first

Dan Fischer is no stranger to men’s health. In fact, Mr Fischer, a men’s health worker at Apunipima, loves having a yarn to his clients about their health to keep them on track mentally, physically, socially and emotionally.
On Friday November 27, Deadly Dan is encouraging men to visit Mossman Gorge Primary Health Care Centre to have a men’s health check to recognise Male Ochre Day.
Male Ochre Day is about helping to Close the Gap between non-Indigenous and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and to support men’s health.
Mr Fischer is encouraging men to visit Apunipima’s Mossman Gorge Primary Health Care Centre for a men’s health check from 12 noon today Friday November 27, where there will be information on men’s health, a tackling smoking display, Aboriginal dance and healthy tucker.
“Having a health check is important for our mob, and I enjoy having a chat to clients about how they’re going, not only with their health but in life,” Mr Fischer said. “If their health is good then there’s better life outcomes for them and their families.
“We work closely with men to address issues such as smoking, social and emotional wellbeing, parenting, substance abuse and chronic disease. We have seen the value having a yarn with someone about their health brings, not only to our male clients but their families and communities too.”
Male Ochre Day is celebrated on Friday November 27 from 12noon at Apunipima Cape York Health Council’s Mossman Gorge Primary Health Care Centre, 4 Kankarr Street, Mossman Gorge.
