Local wildlife authors celebrate with some interesting guests

Published Saturday 7 November 2015

Wildlife Habitat played host today to several local wildlife writers who shared their inspirations and experiences of becoming wildlife writers and illustrators.

The Meet Your Local Wildlife Author event celebrated the achievements of several authors, some also illustrators and photographers.  Craig Ward, Tim Hawkes, Paul Curtis, Martin Cohen, Pam Galeano and Eva Welsh shared their journey of what drew them to writing about wildlife.  There was a broad range of publications that would interest children and adults alike.

Mayor Julia Leu said it was the Douglas Shire’s diverse backdrop that offered so much to write about, offering the authors praise and congratulations for their inspiration and contribution of creative talent.

The event, proudly supported by the Wet Tropics Management Authority, coincides with the recent release of ‘Eternal Endemism The Wet Tropics’ by Craig Ward, a collection of extraordinary photographs of local Wet Tropics wildlife.

Wildlife Habitat Manager Clare Anderson said the event was a great day out for families and an opportunity to meet some of the region’s most well-known wildlife authors.

“Today started with each of the authors speaking about the inspiration behind their books, and how the Wet Tropics influenced their work,” she said.

“Guests were then able to meet the authors individually, purchase copies of their books and get the books signed.”

Owner Charles Woodward  said the after some tough times after the GFC, things were really starting to move forward for the Habitat Wildlife Centre.

There were some other accompanied special guests who also made an appearance today; pythons, baby croc and blue tongue lizards, who were not at all camera shy.
