Remembrance Day ceremony

Douglas Shire Council and the Mossman RSL sub-branch will host a Remembrance Day Ceremony at Council’s Mossman Administration Building from 10.30am on Wednesday 11 November.

Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony and afterwards enjoy a morning tea prepared by home economics students from Mossman State High School.


NDRRA progress report

Almost $20 million under the State and Federal Government-funded National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) to repair roads throughout the Douglas Shire damaged in natural disasters in 2014 has been approved to date.

More than $850,000 was spent in the Douglas Shire during September on accommodation, wages, fuel, material supply and plant hire, and more than $1 million injected into the regional economy on wages, subcontractor and material supply.

Council remains on track to oversee the completion of roadworks next month.


Water & Wastewater quarterly report

Council’s Water & Wastewater teams have successfully fulfilled annual regulatory reporting requirements. The reports are available on Council’s website.
In the September quarter, the Water team conducted 86 service repairs and eight water mains repairs.

A total of 354 water samples were tested and all were compliant.

A total of 172 wastewater compliance samples were taken and all were compliant.

More than 40 per cent of treated effluent from the Port Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant was pumped to two local resorts.

Bio-solids were produced at the dewatering plants at Mossman Wastewater Treatment Plant (18 per cent) and Port Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant (14 per cent). Bio-solids were taken to Edmonton Farms, Tablelands Regional Farms and Spring Mount Waste Facility for further treatment and beneficial land application as organic fertiliser and soil conditioner.


Capital Works progress quarterly report

Council adopted a record capital works budget in excess of $19 million for the 2015/16 financial year, including around $9 million for the restoration of essential assets under NDRRA.

This capital works quarterly report details the progress of the capital works program for works with a budget of $10,000 or more, excluding NDRRA works.

The majority of on-ground works in the first quarter has involved completing the remaining 2014/15 capital works, particularly in the Infrastructure area.

The first quarter for 2015/16 projects has been largely involved with the design, planning and sourcing phase.

The next quarter will see substantial commencement and delivery of many projects across the Operations area.

Final audit report from Queensland Audit Office

The Queensland Audit Office has provided a report to Council outlining any deficiencies identified in its investigations.

The list of deficiencies and actions to be undertaken by Council to address these are detailed on Council’s website.


Daintree Forum #2 report

Council has provided a report on the second Daintree Forum, which was attended by approximately 35 local residents and business operators in July.

Mossman Meteors back in the swim

The Mossman Meteors Swimming Club will be given access to the Mossman Swimming Pool after Council determined to amend the lease terms and conditions.
The Meteors will be provided access to three outside pool lanes for morning and afternoon sessions five days a week.


Council to consider Cooya Beach skateboard ramp

Council will consider building a skateboard ramp at Cooya Beach after a petition was presented at Tuesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

Council officers will prepare a report on the proposal to be considered at a future Ordinary Council Meeting.
