Local charity KIND had their most successful fundraising event ever at the Sheraton Mirage Melbourne Cup Garden Party last Tuesday. Sheraton donated to KIND $10 for every ticket sold to the event and they received 25% of the takings for the Calcutta and held a silent auction and raffles.

“We are unable to give you exact figures yet for our total profits including the $10 donation from each entry ticket.  But even without that money, which we are hoping is going to be more than $1,500, we have raised just over $8,330 in profit. So it is looking like we might exceed $10,000 for the day which is absolutely fantastic,” said Ann-Marie Clark Parent Liaison, Treasurer and Secretary.

“We could not be happier with the outcome of the day and the support provided by Sheraton. We were inundated with gift vouchers for not only Port Douglas but other Sheraton premises in Perth, Sydney, Gold Coast and Noosa. Other sponsors Peppers Spa’s  Carol Fleming provided prizes for Best Dressed Male and Female and also $25 vouchers for every person who attended the event.

“Dave Evans did a fantastic job as our MC and we had sponsorship from so many other businesses and individuals it is a credit to the community we live in how supported a charity such as KIND is,” she said.

KIND was established in 2008 in the Douglas Shire as a not-for-profit organisation, by local people for local people, to raise, administer and distribute funds to assist children in need of support who have been diagnosed with a life threatening or debilitating illness or injury.
