Carnivale 2016 dates have been set

While the Douglas Shire Council continues their search for an event co-ordinator extraordinaire to manage the Carnivale festivities in 2016 and 2017, next year’s dates have now been confirmed.

Carnivale will run from Friday 20 May to Sunday 22 May, 2016.  Based on community feedback and the tourism industry, Council has brought Carnivale back to a three day event instead of 10 days.

Mayor Julie Leu advised that this will allow more people to have an opportunity to enjoy the major events.

“With a 10 day Carnivale, visitors in particular were less likely to be able to attend major events such as the Longest Lunch, the Street Parade, the Beach Day, Food and Wine and the Seafood Extravaganza.

“By shortening the format and retaining the major events, this is a fabulous opportunity to reinvigorate Carnivale.

“This will also help with the promotion of Carnivale throughout Australia - who wouldn’t want to come here for a huge long weekend of fun in the sun when the majority of people down south are starting to shiver from the onset of winter,” said Mayor Leu.

Mayor Julia Leu said Council is looking for a passionate event co-ordinator or company to help reinvigorate Carnivale with fresh ideas and enthusiasm.

An information pack for interested event co-ordinators is available on Council’s website douglas.qld.gov.au/are-you-the-next-carnivale-event-co-ordinator/.

Request for Quotations need to be submitted by COB Friday 27 November.
