One of Australia’s most popular breakfast news programs will be bringing Port Douglas and the Daintree to television screens across the nation next week.

Today, hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson, will broadcasting live from 5:30am in front of St Mary’s Church in Port Douglas from the early hours of Wednesday May 27th.

The broadcast will form part of a country-wide tour for the program.

Karl Stefanovic has already visited key tourism providers in the area over the weekend, including ziplining through the Daintree rainforest canopy at Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours, cruising along the Captain Cook Highway on one of Grub’s Trike Tours, angling for barramundi at Hook-a-Barra and checking out Dickson Inlet on the Lady Douglas river tour.

Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree (TPDD), in association with Tourism Events Queensland (TEQ)  played a key role in organising the visit, which should result in hundreds of thousands of regular viewers tuning in to see Douglas Shire.

TPDD executive officer Tara Bennett said the exposure would be invaluable to the tourism-dependent region.

“It’s going to enable us to highlight the many value our region offers to visitors,” Ms Bennett said.

“It’s wonderful to have partners like Tourism and Events Queensland that help make things like this possible.”

Sheena Walshaw at Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours in Cape Tribulation said Mr Stefanovic had been a ‘wonderful guest’.

“He’s an absolute professional and he was great on the tour,” she said.

“He did the whole tour and we even put him in our giant Human Hamster Wheel.”

“I think it’s going to be a huge boost for us in terms of our domestic market - the vast majority of our business is domestic, so it’s a very important market to us.

“I’ll be setting my digital recording on the TV to catch the broadcast for sure.”
