Services to improve thanks to special training

With tourism and hospitality the backbones of our local community income stream, training in these areas is vital.

Since it’s inception in 2012, Far North Training and Consultancy has been delivering training to hundreds of students in the fields of Hospitality, Business, Tourism, Aged Care and Disability Services. As well as their regular training courses of First Aid & CPR, the latest skill set being delivered into the community is Housekeeping.

A housekeeping skill set course is a four-week course providing a pathway for people to work in various hospitality settings, including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs and coffee shops.

The course is completed on site and is being hosted by Niramaya Resort & Spa, where small groups of up to ten students carry out day to day housekeeping duties, all under the watchful eye of highly qualified trainers. It’s this high level of training that sees the students gain employment locally and abroad.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for all accommodation and hospitality providers to take advantage of having highly qualified staff in their work place – and the training for the student is free!”, says FNTC Director Liz Ross.

“Currently there is funding available for businesses to direct potential employees to seek subsidized training, before hiring them. This ensures that each establishment is hiring employees who are well trained, and most likely to stick around for the season, if not longer”, said Ms Ross.

“Business continue to find it extremely frustrating hiring someone, investing in training and having them to leave or not work out. Accessing this funding can reduce this risk”.

There are a number of Certificate 3 courses that fall into the Government subsidized funding barrel of the Certificate 3 Guarantee. This initiative by the State Government is to provide training to Queenslanders who have never completed a Cert 3 or higher to obtain a qualification, at a fraction of the cost.

This Cert 3 Guarantee is currently open to the following courses: Tourism & Diving; Hospitality; Business; Beauty Services; Aged Care and Disabilities. This opportunity is only for a limited time and will likely expire as of June 30th so get in quick.

Accommodation & hospitality businesses that have positions to be filled in early June can contact Far North Training as there are trained locals seeking employment.
