FNQ's biggest seafood festival will deliver

Not only will there be the region’s tastiest and freshest seafood to enjoy, there will be live entertainment, family fun and more at this year’s Preston Fresh Seafood Extravaganza at the Reef Marina on May 31.
It is that time of the year when the culinary event of the year is almost upon us and once again the amazing seafood dishes will be served to suit every taste bud.
Starting at 11am and going through to sunset, the event will make the most of the boardwalk and the fully landscaped lawn area at the Reef Marina.
Event organiser Vicki Kurth of Managing Australian Destinations (MAD) said it was still the same Seafood Extravaganza that people have come to know and love, just better.
“The lawn area at the Reef Marina will be utilised as the main family entertainment area with lots of big umbrellas, Bali flags and marquees, so there will be plenty of shade. People are being encouraged to bring along a picnic rug or their own fold up chairs,” she said.
Food stalls include Lure, Ricky & Candy, Reef Catering, Mojo's, Rattle n Hum, Summer Ice Cream, Paws & Claws, Jodi's Gourmet Dumplings, Temptations and Big Jules' Pizza, all with amazing and creative menus. Paws and Claws will have a water station to help raise money for its cause.
Sponsored by Great Northern, Ms Kurth said it was guaranteed there would be plenty of beer as well as wine, cider, spirits and cocktails available, as well as water and non-alcoholic drinks.
"There are lots of activities for children organised with a jumping castle, super slide and bungee run, fairy floss machine, shaved ice booth and ice cream van. A kids corner inside the marina will also have face painting."
Not to be outdone, she said there was a great line up of entertainment for adults too, with the winners of Carnivale’s Street Art and Music Festival, strutting their stuff on both stages, as well as Street Theatre characters and DJ Nicky G spinning his tunes.
The Rotary Club of Cairns Sunrise is also throwing out the grappling irons for shipmates to join them on a cruise to the Seafood Extravaganza. Departing Cairns at 8am on Reef Magic Cruises, leave the car behind for the day and raise money for the Declan Crouch Fund.
