Non-profits received more than $10,000 in funding, including a $2,400 grant for Douglas Heat Basketball club, at a special presentation evening on Thursday night at Mossman Bowls Club.
Cairns Community Enterprise (CCE) presented cheques to more than 20 not-for-profit groups through its income sharing initiative with Bendigo Bank.
Bendigo Bank Regional Manager, Tony Jensen said the highlight of the evening was the presentation of funds raised from the community and the bank working together to build the prosperity of the community.
“Listening to the community groups share how the funds received are making a difference to their individual projects is great to see” Mr Jensen said.
“This is a fantastic community initiative that promotes great outcomes for our community’s health, education, sporting and environmental groups.”
Thursday’s presentation night takes CCE’s total community contributions to $728,000 since it was established in 2009.
The Bendigo model is what makes them community driven. Its very simple, not-for-profit organisations, their members and supporters generate an ongoing income stream by meeting their banking needs through Bendigo Bank.
The more business they do with Bendigo Bank, the more money Cairns Community Enterprise receives through commission paid to Cairns Community Enterprise on nominated accounts. The commission covers loans, deposits and insurance.
