One person has been injured after two vehicles crashed hours apart in the same location on the Captain Cook Highway just north of Port Douglas.

A black SUV rolled onto its side at the site at about 4pm on Sunday, with its two occupants escaping unharmed.

At 9pm a white sedan travelling northwards crashed into the ditch immediately next to the SUV, with a 28-year-old male reporting chest pains afterward.

It is not yet clear if the sedan impacted into the rolled SUV, or what caused either accident.

Newsport will report more on this story as more information becomes available.
