New toilets open at Reef Marina

A less-glamorous - but just as necessary - part of the Port Douglas Reef Marina’s refurbishment has just been completed.
The Marina’s flash new toilets opened to the public and marina customers yesterday.
The toilets, which feature air conditioning, also come with a unisex combined disabled-access / parents’ room and a new amenities block for Marina berth customers that includes showers.
The Reef Marina engaged with a number of local businesses and suppliers for the construction of the new toilets, which was overseen by Marina operations manager Wayne Hartley.
Marina general manager Rob Cruz said new toilets had been identified as a priority early on during the refurbishment design process.
"It's been a long-running concern that one of the most consistent bits of negative feedback we got for the Marina was the condition of the old toilets,” Mr Cruz said.
“So it was actually identified as one of our priorities early on for the the refurbishment, that we had to get the new toilets up and running quickly.”
The old toilet block will be closed permanently but Mr Cruz said the marina is still assessing what will be done with the old amenities block.
